Welcome to the Champlain Valley School District,
One metaphor you will hear about and see from our district this year is the aspen tree and the aspen stand. A stand or group of aspen trees is considered a singular organism with the main life force underground in the extensive root system. Aspen stands are among the oldest organisms on Earth. Each aspen tree is a replication of the others. The strength of the visible aspen stand is interdependent on the strength of the root system.
Our CVSD organization is interdependent with the people who compose it. Each person – faculty, staff, and administrator – and each school is linked to the district’s root system. This interdependency is necessary for the district to make the best possible decisions for students and staff.
Additionally, taking this metaphor a little further, an aspen grove benefits from its shared root system, our schools thrive on the bonds that tie us together. As parents, caregivers, and educators, we provide a solid foundation for our children to grow and thrive. Your involvement, guidance, and partnership play an invaluable role in shaping their experiences and success.
Together, we will watch our children's minds stretch and grow, much like the branches of the aspen trees stretching toward the sunlight. We will witness their confidence deepen, much like the roots of the aspen trees that interweave beneath the surface, providing stability.
As we step into this new academic year, let's cherish the beauty of our metaphorical aspen grove. Let's cultivate an environment of collaboration, learning, and mutual respect. With your support, we are confident that this year will be one of growth, exploration, and achievement for each and every student.
Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of nurturing your children's potential. Welcome back to school, parents and caregivers. Here's to a wonderful year ahead.
Sincerely,
Rene Sanchez, Superintendent
Champlain Valley School District
