Student Activities ~ Co-curricular and After-School Programs
Bands: The four school bands at SCS are: Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and Stage Band. Instrumental lessons and band may be elected starting in grade 5.
Chorus: Choruses at SCS include: 4th & 5th Grade Chorus, Middle School Chorus (6-8), and Special Ensembles (6-8).
Do Good Club: Students in grades 6-8 have an opportunity to sign up for a volunteer community service program at SCS. Examples of services performed include working at the school store, taking photos for the school calendar, monitoring/helping young students during K-2 lunches in the cafeteria, cutting and bundling box tops for the PTO, recycling, mentoring, etc.
Instruments: Starting in the fifth grade, students have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Instruments are rented from Ellis Music Company and group lessons are given by the band instructor. Parents are notified in early September of rental information.
Part2: This fee-based after-school program serves students in grades K-8. IAS offers a variety of activities which include recreation and games, arts and crafts, reading, enrichment activities, homework time and free time for children to pursue their own interests in a safe and friendly environment. IAS begins when children are released from school, and ends at 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Full day care is offered on many holiday and school breaks.
Interscholastic Sports: Soccer, field hockey, cross country, basketball, baseball, track and softball, are offered as inter-scholastic team sports to 6th/8th grade students during specific seasons of the school year. Students absent during a school day may not take part in any extracurricular activity scheduled after school. This includes sports, SKAT and dances.
Middle School Activity Nights/Dances: Throughout the year the Student Council, Project Lead and Middle School Teams will host Friday night activities at SCS that are open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders from Shelburne Community School only. Parents will receive a communication prior to the first event with all the rules and expectations. Only SCS students are allowed to attend dances, no guests are permitted. Students missing school the day of a school dance may not attend. Students may also be restricted from attending dances based on behavioral concerns involving the planning room.
School Musical: Students in grades 6-8 have an opportunity to try out for the annual musical play and other performances announced during the year. A commitment to the musical is a full-time commitment and requires regular after-school rehearsals. Students who are involved in the musical may have difficulty participating in an after-school sport activity because of the conflict of practice times.
SKAT (Shelburne Kids Activities Together): This is our after-school extracurricular club program. Throughout the year we offer a variety of clubs to 1st - 8th grade students on designated days from dismissal until 4:00 pm. Clubs are free, materials are provided, and late bus transportation is always an option. Club offerings are dependent on adult availability and we are always looking to partner with community members.
