CVSD Common Read

To Families of Current 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 8th graders:

Your students are invited to participate in the first ever CVSD Common Read. This is an exciting opportunity to engage in reading a book over the summer around a common theme. All students will participate in a day of celebration in early September to share, build community, and learn more about the theme.

*Parents/Guardians of current 5th and 7th graders - you and your child have a choice of books. Please read the letter for details and visit the Common Read website to learn more about the options. Students will select and receive their books the day of the kick-off in their school.

Read this letter for more information.

Please join us for a Community Book Discussion about March, Book One.

Champlain Valley Union High School will host a community discussion about March: Book One by civil rights leader and member of Congress, John Lewis, on Wednesday, June 19th, from 6:00-7:00 PM in the CVU Library.

March: Book One is the 2019 Vermont Reads selection from the Vermont Humanities Council, and it is also part of Champlain Valley School District's Common Read initiative and will be read by all incoming 9th graders this year. The discussion is open to all members of the community, and it will have two strands after a collective introduction: 1) for those who have already read the book and who would like to dive deeper into its themes, and 2) for those who had yet to read the book and who would like background knowledge and context about its content.
